While at first glance it may not look like it but the Kia K2700 is the best mix between a truck and a passenger car with all the benefits of both. There is also an option for either single or double rear wheels depending on your needs which will help with load carrying regardless of size, weight or terrain while offering a comfortable ride.
Kia Built A True Workhorse
Kia Motors is the oldest and second-largest Korean carmaker in the world and the Kia K2700, originally launched in 2002, was the carmaker’s swansong into the LCV market. Named for its 2700cc internal-combustion engine, it clearly showed the type of audience they were targeting as this lightweight truck would be ideal for tradesmen such as plumbers, builders and electricians.
However, over time, the Kia K-2700 showed enough charm to attract a larger consumer market. Today, many companies prefer the K2700 for short or long-distance delivery vehicles especially with the K2700 Tipper Model Variants and K2700 Refrigerated Delivery Models among others.
The K2700 is nearly 5 meters long, 2 meters wide with ground clearance from 145mm to 200mm. It weighs around 3 tons with a large storage area (2.81m x 1.63m) capable of handling a payload of between 1 and 1,3 tons depending on the model. The Kia K2700 has a braked towing capacity of 1180 – 1400 kg and 700 kg unbraked.
Kia K2700 Engine Specifications And Performance
In terms of powertrain, there are two options where a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel produces 96 kW, 255 Nm of torque while the 2.7-litre Diesel engine generates 62 kW and 168 Nm. While these specs won’t help win a drag race, it does position the Kia K2700 as a trendsetter in its category for versatility, payload capacity and good fuel consumption averaging 9.4-10.7l/100km*.
All variants are 4-cylinder with DOHC reaching top speeds of 120 – 142 km/h, model dependent. As previously mentioned, the Kia K2700 2.7D has a 1.3-ton load capacity and wishbone style stabiliser which means it can handle various types of terrain from busy urban streets to highways, byways and winding roads. It also has a Load Sensing Proportioning Valve that helps with the overall braking stability.
Interior And Exterior Features
The Kia K2700 has several standard features you’d expect from a modern car with remote central locking, electric windows, power steering, height-adjustable steering wheel and cup holders. Air conditioning is standard on the Kia K2700 2.5D and 2.7D Workhorse Dropside (aircon) while a CD player is an optional extra.
You will be pleasantly surprised with the roomy, comfy interior, loads of space and carefully put together upholstery and LED gauge cluster on the centre console. The cubbyhole offers up to 11 litres of space to hold a wide variety of items for all your needs. The front centre seat can be folded down for additional storage space.
Ergonomically designed, the seats offer tremendous support, durability and comfort for drivers and passengers alike. The driver’s seat, however, has extra-thick cushioning to help reduce fatigue on long journeys to improve road safety.
