There have been used MINI for sale in South Africa since the 1960’s, but since 2000, MINI has been owned by BMW. During this time BMW has helped to revitalise the brand and taken it from a popular British brand that was iconic in the 1960’s and in movies such as the Italian Job starring Michael Caine to the top of the small car luxury market.
Since its launch in 1959, there has been a new MINI model continuously available until today. Below is a list of the previous generations of MINI Cars, many of which are still seen on the road today. Some are collector’s pieces, such as the Austin MINI and the Morris MINI, while other later pre-2000 MINI models can sometimes be seen on our showroom floors on the odd occasion that they become available as used MINI for sale. The MINI brand has always had a story to tell, and this can be seen in the following generations of vehicles:
Most of these vehicles were built under the British Leyland or Rover Group name, as they owned the marque until it was sold to BMW in 1994.

Currently, in its fourth generation, the MINI Hatchback and Hardtop is also known as the MINI Cooper, MINI One, or simply as the MINI. It is one of the top-selling used MINI cars in South Africa. The generation year releases included the following production models:
Model variants include a Convertible MINI and the John Cooper Works GP MINI. Did you know? This version of the MINI has won numerous awards over the years, including the North American Car of the Year award in 2003, the 2006 German Das Goldene Lenkrad Award, the Fifth Gear Best Small Car of 2006 and the MotorPress.ca Driver’s Car Award and Top Pick Award. The current generation Mini Cooper sports the largest round OLED screen in the automotive market, with a 240 mm diameter. |

MINI Countryman

The MINI Countryman is a subcompact crossover SUV, which makes it the biggest MINI in size that has been manufactured to date. There have been two generations of MINI Countryman, with the following sales years attributed to the corresponding vehicle generations:
South Africa will see four variants in the third generation lineup: the Countryman C, the Countryman Cooper S, the Countryman John Cooper Works (JCW), and the first-ever electric model, the Countryman Cooper SE. Did you know? A MINI Countryman with a straight-six engine and a MINI All4 (4×4) system won the Dakar Rally 4 straight years in a row in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015! A MINI Countryman with the same All4 (4×4) system also won the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge four times from 2011. In its third iteration, it is the first Countryman to offer petrol and electric powertrains. |

The first-generation MINI Clubman is a supermini, while the second-generation Clubman is classified as a small family car. What sets the MINI Clubman apart from other MINI models is the fact that access to its rear cargo space is via bi-parting rear doors. These doors are known as barn doors or split doors. Production year models fall into two generations:
Did you know? Although not available in South Africa, there is also a MINI Clubvan, which is a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) based on the Mini Clubman design and vehicle layout. It was only sold for 1 year before being discontinued. |

The MINI Coupé and MINI Roadster is a discontinued model variant that was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It was assembled exclusively in the United Kingdom at BMW’s Cowley Plant in Oxfordshire. There was only one generation of this vehicle manufactured with the following sales years:
Did you know? The word Roadster refers to the fact that it is a 2-seater convertible version of the Coupé that emphasises the spoty aspect of the MINI brand. It was first unveiled as a concept vehicle in 2009 and launched in 2012 at the North American International Auto Show. |
