Used BMW 325i for Sale

Three variants of the second generation 3 series BMW 325i range were made available in South Africa. These were:

• The 325i which was manufactured and sold between 1985-1993
• The 325is which was manufactured and sold between 1987-1990
• And the 325ix which was manufactured and sold between 1985-1991

In South Africa, only the coupes and sedans were built at the BMW Rosslyn Plant in Gauteng.

Did You Know? In 1990 a 2.7 litre 325iS was created by BMW South Africa as a response to the introduction of the Opel Kadett 2 litre and later the Opel Kadett 16V SuperBoss. A later version of this car were built with a Alpina-fettled, 2.7 litre M20 engine which produced a very impressive 145 kW. This 325iS successfully competed in the Group N production car racing events of the time and won the 20 of the 24 Group N Class A races in 1993 to clinch the title.

The third generation BMW 3 series range once again included a 325i model variant, as well as all of the following body styles:

• 4-door sedan
• 4-door saloon
• 2-door coupé
• 2-door convertible
• 5-door estate or station wagon (not available in South Africa)
• 3-door hatchback

This generation of 3 series BMW, of which the 325i manufactured between 1991 and 1999 is a part, named as one of the top 10 cars of the year in the Car and Driver Magazine within months of first going on sale. This was partly due to its innovative new good looks, but also because of the new improved safety features which were included as standard without a big jump in the Price of the BMW 325i.

Did You Know? A slightly modified version of the E36 vehicle platform which formed the basis of the 325i was also used to build the BMW Z3 roadster from 1996 until 2002.

This version of the 325i was part of the fourth generation BMW 3 Series which proved to be a highly successful model for BMW both here in South Africa and abroad. Due to the exceptional build quality there are still many of this generation of 325i on the road today.

In September of 2001 a 325i facelift version was released which include only minor changes to the body and interior cabin. However a new more efficient petrol M54 engine was introduced into the range.

Did You Know? A BMW 325i SULEV was introduced into parts of America in 2003 to ensure that the vehicle complied with the strict pollution laws in certain states. To this day these super ultra low emission vehicles still have a reputation as some of the lowest CO2 emitting BMW cars ever built.

The fifth generation BMW 3 Series saw the launch of the next iteration of the 325i in South Africa, and once again this model variant shot to the top of the compact executive car sales list.

In 2008 a facelift 325i model was introduced which included an increase in the rear track of 325i by 24 mm. Style and visual changes included new front and rear bumpers, new design wing mirrors, a slight change in the look of the headlights and taillights, wider kidney grilles and even revised crease lines on the 325i bonnet.

Did You Know? During the 2011 – 2013 production run of the E90 platform a 335is was produced in coupé and convertible versions. This model variant was limited to only 6,300 units globally and used a high performance engine not found in other BMW’s at the time which put out an impressive 320 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque!
