The 2nd generation of the BMW 4 Series range consists of the BMW G22 (coupé version), the BMW G23 (convertible) and BMW G26 (saloon version, marketed as the Gran Coupé) compact executive cars. The BMW G22 4 Series was first launched in June 2020 and is a worthy successor to the BMW F32 4 Series. As with the BMW G20 3 Series range, the BMW G22/G23/G26 is available with a turbocharged petrol or diesel engine. Among the biggest changes on the second generation BMW 4 Series is a significantly updated design to distinguish itself from the 3 Series. The most impactful design change is the large front grille was inspired by the 1930s BMW 328 which was the popular choice for many professionals and families alike. BMW G22/G23/G26The BMW G22 4 Series was unveiled as a concept at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, called the BMW Concept 4. It previewed the next generation of the BMW 4 Series with more refined styling courtesy of a duck-tail spoiler at the rear, thin wing mirrors made from a single piece of aluminium and open headlamps embedded into the body of the car. In May 2020, BMW announced the G22 4 Series would be unveiled by posting a teaser image of the top-of-the-range BMW M440i model. Toward the latter part of 2020. BMW launched the convertible version of the BMW 4 Series (G23), with the same technology and engine options as the coupe. The iDrive 7.0 system is standard and features an 8.8-inch screen on the centre console along with a 5.1-inch screen in the instrument cluster. A 10.3-inch screen for the infotainment system along with a 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster is optional. The iDrive 7.0 also has over-the-air updates for the SatNav and operating system and features a voice-controlled digital assistant. |

The BMW 4 Series is made up of the BMW F32 (coupé version), BMW F33 (convertible version) and BMW F36 (four-door coupé version, marketed as ‘Gran Coupé’). It is a popular sports car which has included one model change in 2016 and a facelift in 2017. The 2016 model change saw the introduction of a new engine, as well as the 440i model, replacing the 435i, and the 430i model replacing the 428i. At the same time in 2016, the 425d model was also introduced. The 4 Series facelift in 2017 saw the introduction of new colours, redesigned LED headlights, tail-lights, and bumpers, interior design changes and revised suspension on all Coupé and Gran Coupé models. Did You Know? A second-generation BMW 4 Series was unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show under the name Concept 4. Although it is only 85% representative of what will actually become the second-generation 4 Series production model at BMW, it does give a good indication of some major design changes. This includes a new interpretation of the iconic BMW kidney grille, as well as the addition of an all-electric four-door fastback, version of the 4 Series BMW called the BMW i4. Launch dates for this new generation 4 Series have yet to be confirmed. |
