Used Honda Ballade Sale

The Honda Ballade is a South African motoring icon and since 1980, with only a brief 11-year absence from South African roads, has played a major part in all Used Honda Vehicle Sales. In fact, a Used Honda Ballade for Sale anywhere in the country over the years has been snapped up almost as quickly as it hits the sales floor. This is because it has proven reliability, its a trusted luxury Honda brand, and has numerous safety and convenience features which are commonly found in vehicles of a higher price bracket.

The History of the Honda Ballade in South Africa

The Honda Ballade is not one single model, but a number of different Honda cars which have been rebranded under the Ballade name. Only the first two generations of vehicles were based on an actual Ballade sold outside of South Africa, all further generations of Ballade have been based on either the Honda Civic Sedan or the Honda City Sedan.

7th/8th Generation Honda Ballade
2019 to Present

There is some confusion about the generation number for the 2022 Honda Ballade because in its long history it had been based on three different international models. The Ballade was also absent from South Africa for 11 years from the early 2000s.

The latest generation is most likely accurately called the 7th. This latest model Honda Ballade is a sedan that comes in three trim levels – Comfort, Elegance and RS.

Like previous Ballade generations, the 7th /8th generation sits at the top end of the affordable sedans.

Did You Know? The Honda Ballade marque was revived by a local subsidiary of Daimler-Benz in 2011. The reason for this is that they intended to market a more cost-effective vehicle other than the Mercedes-Benz models they already sold. The Ballade name was perceived to be more luxury branded than the original Civic Sedan on which the South African Ballade was going to be based. However, the Honda City was eventually decided on as the basis for all New South African Ballade models, but the name stuck and today the Ballade is once again one of Honda’s top-selling vehicles in the country.

1st Generation Honda Ballade
1980 – 1983

Launched in 1980, the Honda Ballade quickly became a popular vehicle in the new luxury vehicle market that was establishing itself in South Africa. British Leyland also manufactured a version of this car which was known as the Triumph Acclaim. It was replaced in the United Kingdom by the Rover 200.

Did You Know? The name “Ballade” was taken from the French word for a ballad. The reason for this was twofold: Firstly it had an upmarket sound to it which appealed to the luxury vehicle market at which it was aimed. Secondly, the four-door Ballade sedan and the five-door hatchback Quintet represented a musical group within Honda’s branding and advertising plans.
