The first generation C-Class Merc (W202) was built from 1993 to 2000. It was the replacement for Mercedes Benz 190. It was the smallest Merc until the launch of the A-Class in 1997. The C-Class Merc was launched as a sedan and a station wagon. This Merc has a smoother and rounder body design than its predecessor. In 1995 the C-Class received its first performance model, the C36 AMG. This was a successful move to counter the new BMW M3. The AMG tuning house became a subsidiary of Merc. During the 1996/7 Formula 1 season, the C36 AMG served as the sport’s safety car. |
