The sixth-generation Subaru Forester for sale was revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2023. The new Forester showcases sleeker exterior lines, and a quieter and more refined interior, and continues to be built on the Subaru Global Platform, boasting 10% greater rigidity for a sturdier ride. Did you know? The 6th-generation Subaru Forester will introduce a hybrid powertrain in 2025, (using a Toyoya-based system), bringing a new level of efficiency to this much-loved SUV. The nameplate is Subaru SA’s best seller.

Fifth Generation Subaru Forester 2020 – 2024
The fifth-generation Subaru Forester went on sale internationally in 2019 and arrived in South Africa a bit later. This class-defining SUV has been extensively redesigned, with bolder and more rounded features than the previous generation. All four trim levels come with CVT transmission and AWD, with a 136kW 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer and a 2.0-litre 110kW boxer four-cylinder options.This generation Forester offers EyeSight Driver Assist technology which includes lane centering and lane depart prevention, in addition to many other safety features.

Fourth Generation Subaru Forester 2012 – 2020
The latest addition to the Subaru Forester family to be sold in South Africa is the 4th generation vehicle which was launched in 2012. There are two engine and transmission options which are model dependent used across the entire range which is featured in more detail in our “at a glance” section of this 4th generation Subaru Forester Profile. Third Generation Subaru Forester 2008 – 2012
Designed by Subaru Chief Designer Mamoru Ishii, the 3rd generation of Subaru Forester was unveiled late in 2007 and officially launched at the 2008 Detroit North American International Auto Show. This new design meant an increase in size when compared to previous generations and the rear suspension was redesigned so as to offer improved handling and much smoother ride characteristics. It was an immediate global sales hit for the company and broke a number of Subaru’s internal sales records. The 2011 Subaru Forester received a facelift which included a new grille insert, the introduction of optional roof racks and the release of two new engine types. Did You Know? This Third Generation Forester was the first to move away from the traditional station wagon layout used in previous generations of this vehicle and moved it firmly into the Crossover SUV Class.

Second Generation Subaru Forester 2002 – 2009
The first Subaru Forester to be sold in South Africa, this second generation of vehicle introduced the local driving public to the legendary 2006–2008 Subaru Forester XT Sports! Still judged today to be one of the best vehicles ever built in its class, you will still see many of these reliable vehicles on the roads today. In fact, because of their distinctive stylings and aggressive sporty look, they are almost just as popular today as they were when they were first released in South Africa. Please Note! The 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engines used in this generation of Forester are interference engines, which means that very close attention must be paid to timing belt breaks or stretches. If this occurs it could lead to possible engine rebuilds, so ensure that your Forester sticks to the correct servicing intervals.
