3rd Generation Suzuki Jimny

Launched at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, the 3rd generation Suzuki Jimny was in continuous production for 20 years. During this time it received a number of slight upgrades and improvements and one major facelift which took place in 2012 for the 2013 Suzuki Jimny production year. The last 3rd Generation Jimny was manufactured late in 2018, with production ceasing due to the fact that the factories that produced it were all retooled and upgraded to manufacture the new 4th generation Jimny. Did You Know? This version of the Jimny was Used as the base platform to produce the Mazda AZ-Offroad Vehicle in the late 1990s. Although not officially launched in South Africa a Mazda AZ (as it is affectionately known as) does turn up in the used vehicles market from time to time. These vehicles, however, are extremely rare and are snapped up by car collectors almost immediately. |

2nd Generation Suzuki Jimny

This was the very first Suzuki Jimny to be sold in South Africa, and launched in the Mid 1980s. It was a massive hit with the outdoor-loving South African public, and even today numerous versions of this generation of Jimny can be seen on South African roads, in particular where there are large surfing communities such as in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Thanks to its long production live and global appeal, there have been may model variants manufactured and sold both around the world. The most well-known of these is the Jimny SJ30 and the Jimny SJ40. There is also a Special Edition SJ413 Samurai which was in actuality a full production model outside of South Africa that included a larger 1.3 litre 4-cylinder engine with a 5-speed manual transmission and power brakes. Did You Know? The sky is most certainly the limit with this generation of Suzuki Jimny, as it set a new vehicle altitude record in 2007 which was previously heald by a Jeep Wrangler. This modified Suzuki Samurai was driven up Ojos del Salado by Gonzalo Bravo and Eduardo Canales to an altitude of 6,688 metres. |
