1st Generation Ford Ka 1996 – 2008
Introduced to the world on the 11 September 1996, the Ford Ka was always meant to be a low-cost addition to the Ford vehicle range. Its build platform was based on the Ford Fiesta of the time, but its body and interior design was very much a new approach to the look and feel of Ford City Cars. Thanks to its large, one-piece, moulded bumpers and wheel arches a simple fender bender was cheaper than ever before to repair, which made the vehicle a hit in overcrowded cities at the time. Its “New Edge” design was a new approach for Ford and its appeal was very similar to the Nissan Juke with the “you either loved it or hated it” approach. No matter what you thought of is looks, however, everyone was in agreement with the fact that the Ford Ka had exceptional handling for its class, with it even to this day being a standout addition to the city car vehicle class. Did You Know? Although the second and third generation of the Ford Ka might not have been sold in South Africa under that name, you’ll be surprised to find out that the Ford Figo is actually the very same vehicle(which is a unique model variant sold in India, Mexico and South Africa).
