Although for all mechanical, and to a certain degree from a style perspective, the final three generations of Isuzu KB were essentially the same vehicle; there were a number of accessory and feature changes which were made to the KB range that ensured that the different generations stood apart from one another. There were also a number of limited edition and special edition KB models released during this time, including:
The final version of the Isuzu KB to roll off of the production floor in South Africa was the sixth generation which commenced manufacturing in 2013 and was sold until 2017 (as a 2018 year model). Its predecessor, the fifth generation Isuzu KB was launched in 2004 and was marketed as the bakkie for the new millennium. Before that the fourth generation Isuzu KB became one of the top-selling one-ton bakkies to ever be sold in South Africa. It even outsold all of its rivals not once but twice for 24 months straight in the late 1990s. Did You Know? As recently as 2010 Isuzu KB bakkies were breaking long-standing speed and distance records. In fact, that very year KB bakkies set 15 new records; including a 72 hours endurance record using a KB 300 D-TEQ bakkie. It completed 12 243.385km at an average speed of 170 047km/h. That same year an Isuzu KB 250 D-TEQ also set an almost unbreakable class distance record of 11 495.567kms. |

Globally known as the Isuzu Faster or Isuzu Rodeo, this was the final production model sold outside of South Africa, Australia, Latin America, Mexico and China. It is the Isuzu KB Body Design that all of the subsequent generations of KB bakkies were based upon, and is to this day one of the most recognisable bakkie designs in the country. Due to the very rugged nature of this generation of Isuzu bakkie, there are still many of these older models on South African roads. Due to the longevity of this generation of KB Bakkie it received one major facelift and accessory upgrade. These changes and updates occurred in 1997 and included styling change which gave the KB a more rounded look at the front. It also received a new-look dashboard at the same time, which brought it more in line with the interior look of the globally sold Isuzu vehicles of the time. Did You Know? It was during this generation of Isuzu KB that the now famous Isuzu KB Double Cab was first introduced into South Africa. It hit showroom floors in 1993 and has consistently been one of the top-selling bakkie body styles in the country ever since. |

Introduced to the South African market in 1981, the second generation of Isuzu KB bakkie built on the success of the original generation of the vehicle. During its production run it was the countries top selling 1-tonner for two years running, a record which it held until the fourth generation KB bakkie equalled it a few years later. Did You Know? This second generation Isuzu KB bakkie was the first Isuzu pickup anywhere in the world to be made available in three cab styles. These were the single cab body style, the double cab body style and Sports Cab body style. These were unfortunately not all made available to the South Africa market at the time. |

The original first generation Isuzu KB bakkie design was surprisingly based on the Isuzu Florian sedan. In fact, throughout its 8-year production run, all KB models utilised numerous parts from the Florian, including doors and the front-end assemblage. It was an instant hit with farmers and bakkie lovers ever since. Tried and tested, the ruggedness and reliability of this first Isuzu KB Model ensured that the KB name became a motoring legend. The first generation Isuzu KB Bakkie was the first to be produced in South Africa at the Kempston Road plant in Port Elizabeth. The first vehicle rolled off of the production line in July 1978 and has been a mainstay bakkie for countless South Africans ever since. Did You Know? The first KB bakkies sold in South Africa had a price tag of R3 485 for the 1.6-litre petrol engine bakkie and R4 295 for the 2.0-litre diesel engine bakkie. |
