B8 Volkswagen Passat 2015 – 2018 (Still Available Outside of South Africa)
Despite being shorter than the previous model Volkswagen Passat, innovative design has helped to ensure that the final generation of this vehicle which was sold in South Africa is also the one which provides the most passenger room as well as a host of comfort and convenience features. B6 Volkswagen Passat 2005 – 2010
This D-segment large family car debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2005 and was officially launched during the middle of the year in 2005 in Europe. It used the same building platform as the fifth-generation Golf and Jetta which was available at the time but included a much larger range of comfort and convenience features when compared to any of the other build platform vehicle models. In 2010 this generation of Passat received a facelift which introduced new external body panels, revised grille and headlights, an increase of vehicle length of 4 mm and fatigue detection as well as an automatic “city emergency braking” system. Did You Know? Briefly sold in South Africa, the Passat Estate was awarded the prestigious Practical Caravans Towcar of the Year Award in 2008. This was due to its impressive array of towing features that included the Trailer Stability Programme. Four years later in 2012, a Diesel VW Passat was able to set a record distance of 2,617 kilometres driven on one tank of fuel.
