Manufactured globally since 1975, and available in South Africa since the early 90’s, the Used Volkswagen Polo for Sale in South Africa are many and varied in age. The one thing that they all have in common however is their proven VW reliability and the fact that they inspire brand and marque loyalty in all who own them, not unlike the VW Golf.
As of 2018 there have been 6 generations of Polo vehicles released, with the current generation available in 4 trim levels:

The all new 6th generation VW Polo is the best iteration of this popular vehicle yet! It includes vast improvements in cabin space, engines, and interior technology when compared to ALL previous Polo generations. The current generation of the Polo GTI is the Mk6 Polo GTI which was launched in 2017! It uses a variant of the 2.0 litre turbocharged engine found in the current Mk7 Golf GTI and comes standard with lowered suspension, 17 inch wheels, sill extensions, bigger brakes, red brake calipers, twin exhausts, tartan seats, a sport steering, red stitching, and of course the visible roof spoiler. Did You Know? It is rumoured that Volkswagen is developing a Polo Sedan based on this generation of vehicle. Its working name is currently the Volkswagen Virtus, but this could change if the vehicle is ever launched in South Africa or elsewhere abroad. |

Launched in 2009 and award the European Car of the Year in 2010, and later the World Car of the Year, this 5th generation VW Polo was an important vehicle for VW. So much so in fact that it even managed to win the Japanese Import car of the Year for 2010 and 2011, a big feather i the cap for any European vehicle manufacturer. The build platform on which it was based was also used for the Audi A1, and included styling cues taken directly from the Golf VI. A 2014 facelift saw the introduction of a new look bumper (both front and back, while inside the cabin now includes a touch screen and a new steering wheel. Did you know? This generation of Polo saw the introduction of the PoloCross (also known as the CrossPolo) which introduced an affordable SUV style vehicle to the South African market. To this day there is still a good demand for the Polo Cross at all of our Group1 Pre-owned Showrooms. |

The 4th generation Volkswagen Polo went on sale in 2002 and maintained strong sales growth throughout its entire production run. Volkswagen Racing designed and built a Polo S1600 based on this Polo generation. During the Turkish round of the Junior World Rally Championships it claimed first palace, which was a first for a Polo in this type of race. During the 2010 sales year VW South Africa introduced the Polo Vivo, which replaced the Citi Golf. This “more affordable” version of the Polo was aimed at entry level vehicle buyers and was sold in 3-door and 5-door versions and as a saloon until 2017 when a newer version of the Vivo was introduced. Did you know? A Polo saloon sold as the Polo Classic, was produced in Brazil, South Africa and China. It was not only sold in these markets but was also exported to some of Volkswagen’s biggest markets in Latin America. It was also exported to Australia. |
