Production of the Volvo S60 second-generation commenced on May the 17th, 2010 in Belgium and debuted as a 2011 model. It had updates during its production run, with the first being the introduction of a new engine in 2013 and then a facelift and features upgrade in 2014. These updates not only brought the S60 up to the latest international luxury sedan spec levels but also ensured that it enjoyed a very successful sales run of over 8 years. Did You Know? 1st Generation Volvo S60 2000 – 2009
Built on Volvo’s reliable P2 Platform, the first Volvo S60 Sedans were purpose-built to compete directly with the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. These vehicles turned out to be immensely popular with the global driving public which resulted in a 9-year production run which included multiple model upgrades and facelifts. The most important of these are the 2005 exterior update and the final facelift in 2008. Did You Know? The first generation Volvo S60 was used as a high-speed police interceptor in the United Kingdom. This vehicle was built as a standard spec S60 but included a number of upgrades which made it uniquely suited to its job. This included the front suspension of the D5 model variant, Nivomat self-levelling suspension, the D5 clutch unit, a larger specification battery and 110A alternator, CCTV cameras, electrical noise suppression and 305 mm vented front disc brakes with special brake pads. Some models also had the speed limiter removed which allowed for speeds of over 215 km/h.
