From 1986 to the present day Used Jeep Wrangler two door and four door models have ruled the offroading and SUV roost across the globe. These tough as nails Sports Utility Vehicles are as iconic as they are versatile, and now thanks to Group1 Cars you too can own a part of automotive history.
Arguably the world’s first recreation vehicle, it is said that the Used Jeep Wrangler for Sale today is the direct descendant of the World War II Jeep that helped the Allies win the war. It certainly has the look of that history-making vehicle, but today’s Second Hand Jeep Wrangler is so much more than its predecessor’s thanks to safety and offroading features that are some of the best in the world.
Currently in its 4th generation, the modern Jeep Wrangler has built on its heritage to create a brand that is as iconic as the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps that came before it. Trim levels of the Used Wrangler on our showroom floors include:
Fourth Generation Jeep Wrangler (JL)
|
|
---|---|
The 4th generation Jeep Wrangler is codenamed the JL and now includes standard side-impact airbags on all trim levels and strengthened B-pillars. Additionally, LED headlamps are standard and include Daytime Running Lights. There is also a blind spot monitor built into the taillight housing. To improve overall rear visibility the rear spare tire has been moved downwards. Its design stylings are based on the 1997-2006 Wrangler (TJ). First unveiled during the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2017, the JL Wrangler was made available to purchase in all global Jeep markets in January 2018. Did You Know? In less than a year after it was launched the Wrangler JL was awarded Autotrader’s Must Test Drive Award and the Northwest Automotive Press Association’s Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year in the United States. |

Third Generation Jeep Wrangler (JK)
|
|
---|---|
The Wrangler JK has proven to be a very popular new and used version of the Jeep from the moment it launched in 2007. This 3rd generation of Jeep Wrangler was a complete redesign of the previous generation vehicle and from launch was offered in two models with three trim levels made available in all markets. These were the short-wheelbase 2-door Wrangler, which was sold in X, Sahara and Rubicon trim levels, and the long-wheelbase Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4-door, which was also made available in X, Sahara and Rubicon trim levels. Did You Know? The JK Jeep Generation saw the introduction of the first factory standard four-door Jeep model that was sold alongside the two-door Jeep variant. This Wrangler Unlimited sported a chassis which was stretched by 50 centimeters and provided a lot more interior passenger and luggage space when compared to all previous models. The Wrangler Unlimited was a big sales success for Jeep and by mid 2017 it has been estimated that as many as three quarters of all new Wranglers sold were four-door models. |

Second Generation Jeep Wrangler (TJ)
|
|
---|---|
The Jeep Wrangler TJ was the second generation of the Jeep Wrangler off-road SUV and was introduced in 1996 to be sold as a 1997 model. This most noticeable design change was the reintroduction of the circular headlights the classic Jeep models of yesteryear. Performance-wise the Wrangler TJ now included three engine options, one of which was the now legendary 4.0 L PowerTech I6 engine. This generation of Wrangler was available in numerous special edition model variants, one of which was the Willys Edition which was sold between 2004 and 2005. Did You Know? From 2006 onwards the Israeli Security Forces used the M-242 Storm Mark II, which was a design based on the Jeep Wrangler TJ model. It included additional rear passenger doors, which made it the first five-door Jeep Wrangler derivative ever built. It was this design that inspired the next Jeep JK generations Wrangler Unlimited 5-door model. |

First Generation Jeep Wrangler (YJ)
|
|
---|---|
Designed as a replacement for the CJ-7, and influenced by both Renault and Chrysler due to company ownership changes during its inception stages, the Wrangler YJ was the last Jeep to be developed by the American Motors Corporation. It was introduced in 1986 and sold from 1987 until 1985, with only minor upgrades during this time. When compared to its CJ predecessors this new modern Jeep Wrangler now included improved comfort and safety features as well as a wider track. Trim levels included the Base Model, the Laredo, the Islander, the Sport, the Sahara, the Renegade and the Rio Grande. Did You Know? The Jeep Wrangler YJ is the only model to feature rectangular headlamps. All previous CJ models and all subsequent Wrangler generations have sported the more recognised and iconic round front light stylings. |

An Important Note! Although not all Jeep Wrangler Generations were sold in South Africa there was still a thriving pre-owned Wrangler market before the Jeep brand became officially available in South Africa. Most first or second-generation models would have been imported and in some cases are even still available in a right-hand drive format.
Q: Which Wrangler is the most popular?
A: The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 5-door version has proven to be the top selling and most popular version of the Wrangler both here in South Africa and in other global markets
Q: What is the top of the Jeep Wrangler?
A: Currently this would be the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, which sports impressive off road capabilities and comfort and safety features.
Q: Is there a Wrangler Diesel Model?
A: Yes, many of the Used Wrangler Models that we offer come with a diesel engine.
Q: What is the top-selling Wrangler Year Model?
A: Some of the top-selling year models include the 2017 Wrangler Rubicon, the 2016 Wrangler Sahara and the 2015 Wrangler Unlimited. Older versions which are still very much in demand include the 2009 Wrangler Unlimited and the 2010 Wrangler Sahara.
Q: Which is better, the 4-door or 2-door Jeep Wrangler for Sale at Group1?
A: That entirely depends on what type of vehicle you’re looking for! The 4-door makes a good family vehicle with its extended body, but the 2-door is more agile and can be seen as more practical in urban environments. Both are excellent offroad vehicles, so personal preference should guide your choice!
If you’re looking for a roll-off of the floor ready to rock (climb) 4×4 then a Used Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for Sale is the offroad vehicle you should be considering! It comes standard with a host of features which make it ready to take on anything the moment you get behind the wheel. Of course, when you purchase a Used Jeep Rubicon Wrangler there is a good chance that the previous owner has already upgraded this 4×4 wonder even further than its impressive original, but if not you are going to have a few standard features which will blow you away regardless. These standard Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Features include:
Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon:
Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon:
There are of course many additional features which can be added to a Used Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, so please chat to one of our helpful Group1 Sales Team members to find out more about any additional Jeep features which might have been added to the vehicle you are interested in. Older YJ and TJ models, although not originally sold in South Africa, also have Wrangler Rubicon model variants. These older models would have been imported, so please chat to us about any additional features that might be available on them.
Because the Jeep Wrangler is an offroad ready vehicle we pay close attention to all of the vehicles we purchase for resale. The quality of the Wrangler we sell shows in their Jeep Wrangler Prices, all of which are based on:
